2022 Grand Marshal: 25 Years of Queer Youth Leadership Awards (QYLA) Awardees 1998-2022

The SC Pride Committee announced the 2022 Grand Marshals:

For 25 years the Queer Youth Leadership Awards (QYLA) program has honored LGBTQIA+ youth who have taken on leadership roles in their schools, their places of worship, their sports teams, and in their communities. The first QYLA took place in 1998 and is one of the first awards to recognize LGBTQIA+ youth in the state. Underrepresented identities including nonbinary and asexual communities have gained larger voices and more visibility through QYLA. QYLA awardees and nominees, including adult allies, continue to stand up for changes in their schools, workplaces, and institutions to empower the next generation of leaders to grow into themselves in a place where they are affirmed and celebrated. Since that first year, more than 100 youth have been named awardees and more than 500 others have been nominees, including adult and organizational allies to youth.
