Rest in Power Nex Benedict

We were devastated to learn of the death of Nex Benedict (they/them), a 16-year-old student in an Oklahoma High School earlier this month. Nex was taken from their community far too soon. It is in their name, and the name of countless others, that we affirm our commitment to justice and liberation for our LGBTQ+ community. 

All students, including trans, non-binary and gender-expansive students like Nex, have the right to feel safe and protected while attending school. We encourage all people and organizations throughout our county, state and nation to unite in solidarity to  support our LGBTQ+ youth, our schools, and our teachers, to keep our community strong, and to celebrate our diversity to work towards a world where we do not lose our bright LGBTQ+ youth to ignorance, hate or violence.
